HOW TO CARE FOR AND CLEAN YOUR SILVER JEWELRY
We know that when you get attached to a piece of jewelry, you never take it off ;) If you do what I do when you fall in love with a piece of jewelry, be careful, it may lose its luster or darken!
How to clean your silver jewelry and protect it from oxidation?
The reason jewelry darkens is oxidation, which occurs when jewelry comes into contact with acids. When your jewelry rubs against other bracelets or hair ties, it causes some corrosion. Medications also alter the pH of our skin, which can cause silver jewelry to lose its luster. It seems incredible, right?
Many of you might think that jewelry darkens when stored, and you'd be right! Keeping jewelry in storage can also cause it to darken. To care for your jewelry and prevent it from darkening, follow these tips :
- Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place . If it's also airtight, you'll avoid oxidation due to contact with oxygen.
- Avoid contact of your jewelry with chlorine, sweat, perfume or sea salt.
- Don't leave your jewelry stacked, as they can scratch each other. Also, be careful where you store it, as wood contains acids. The best option is to store them individually in their boxes.
- Clean your silver jewelry once a month to maintain its shine. Soak the jewelry in a bowl of water and baking soda, then dry it with the jewelry cleaning cloth we provided or any cotton cloth.
HOW TO CARE FOR AND CLEAN YOUR GOLD JEWELRY
Gold is inherently a durable material. It doesn't corrode or erode, but it can lose its shine due to soap, grease, or dust particles. To keep your jewelry in perfect condition and help it stay clean, follow these steps :
- Be sure to remove your jewelry before showering , swimming in the ocean or pool, and before using cleaning products. Soap and other chemicals can be abrasive and discolor gold.
- Treat your gold jewelry with care . Despite being a durable material, it can easily deform, so always try to take the utmost care of it.
- Clean your jewelry when you notice they're darkened. The longer you wait to clean them, the more they'll deteriorate.
Tips for cleaning your gold jewelry:
First of all, make sure that other metals and gems will not be damaged by the cleaning process.
- Mix a few drops of mild soap or dish soap with warm water in a container.
- Place the jewelry in the container, without touching it, and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Gently clean each piece of jewelry with a cotton cloth.
- Rinse each piece of gold jewelry with warm water, removing the soap and ensuring the water runs clear.
- Before returning your jewelry to its box, polish it with a cloth.
- You can use specific gold cleaners or a little baking soda and you'll see how it shines.
HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR JEWELRY
We often complain that pendants get scratched, that untangling chains is frustrating, or that jewelry gets dirty quickly... Pay attention because most of the time, it's due to poor organization of our jewelry box.
If you want your jewelry to last for years, you just have to get used to storing it properly. We'll give you some tips. Tips for organizing your jewelry:
- Close the chains: By closing chains, both on necklaces and bracelets, you will prevent them from forming knots or getting tangled with other jewelry.
- Separate rings: Rings with stones or figures tend to get damaged when placed next to other rings. To ensure they look perfect, arrange them in a special ring box or in the box we provide.
- Earrings with threads: Earring threads are like socks—some always get lost! To avoid this, never leave earrings loose. Also, a loose thread can cause your earring to fall off.
- Keeping gold separate from the rest: Despite gold's purity and strength, it tends to tarnish easily, so much so that even oxygen can dull it. Store your gold jewelry in cloth bags, wrapped in a cloth, or in its original box.
- Away from humid places : Not only is where you store your jewelry important, but where you place your jewelry box is also important. Humid places can significantly damage jewelry, so keep your jewelry in a dry place, away from sudden temperature changes. Always avoid leaving it in the bathroom!
